They were quite faded.\u00a0 I am starting to see Meadowhawks now, and I have attached a photo, I think it is a <strong>Red-veined Meadowhawk <\/strong><strong><em>Sympetrum madidum. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><em>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong>Bingo! \u2013 Rob Cannings writes:\u00a0 It is <strong><em>S. madidum<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; a yellow female. You can see the two lateral thoracic stripes. The pattern on the side of the abdomen is also a useful character. In the radial planate area (see wing with clear green behind &#8211; find the spindle-shaped field of cells) two of the cells in the middle are doubled &#8211; this is a good character, too.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"width: 786px; margin: 5px;\" src=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/jtatum\/AppData\/Local\/Temp\/msohtmlclip1\/01\/clip_image002.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"pastedImage.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/pastedImage-92.png\" width=\"671.2\" height=\"391.9603053435115\" name=\"null\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Female Red-veined Meadowhawk <em>Sympetrum madidum <\/em>(Odo.: Libellulidae) Gordon Hart<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0\u00a0 I think this is the spindle-shaped group with the two doubled cells referred to by Dr Cannings:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"width: 253px; margin: 5px;\" src=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/jtatum\/AppData\/Local\/Temp\/msohtmlclip1\/01\/clip_image004.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" title=\"pastedImage.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/pastedImage-93.png\" name=\"null\" \/><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Sympetrum madidum<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 But &#8211; a word of caution!\u00a0 Dr Cannings adds a little later:\u00a0 I <span style=\"font-size: small;\"> should have said that the doubled radial subplanate cells occur also in <em>S. illotum<\/em> (sometimes) and <em>S. corruptum<\/em>, so they are not foolproof.
