\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Jeff Gaskin writes:\u00a0 I\u2019ve been doing a few butterfly counts and I just thought I\u2019d pass on to you a few results:<\/p>\n

\u00a0Today, June 18 in Layritz Park I saw\u00a0 26 Essex<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Skippers, 24 Ringlets,<\/strong> and 2 Lorquin\u2019s Admirals<\/strong>. Along Markham Road and at Quick\u2019s Bottom I saw another Ringlet<\/strong> plus 7 Lorquin\u2019s Admirals<\/strong>, and 2 Western<\/strong> Tiger Swallowtails.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On June 17, at Panama Flats I counted 125 Cabbage Whites, 94 European Skippers, 14 Lorquin\u2019s<\/strong> Admirals, 1 Painted Lady,<\/strong> and 10 Western Tiger Swallowtails<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On June 16, at Swan Lake I saw 27 Lorquin\u2019s Admirals, 4 Cabbage Whites,<\/strong> and 12 Western Tiger<\/strong> Swallowtails.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And finally on June 15 in Cuthbert Holmes Park I saw 3 Cabbage Whites, 5 Essex Skippers, 14 Lorquin\u2019s<\/strong> Admirals<\/strong>, and 2 Western Tiger Swallowtails.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 Val George writes:\u00a0 This afternoon, June 17, there were 3 Purplish Coppers <\/strong>at Island View Beach (48.582714\/-123.372904) (photo of one).\u00a0 Also there were:\u00a0 about 10 Lorquin’s Admirals<\/strong>; one Painted Lady<\/strong>; about a dozen Cabbage Whites<\/strong>; 2 Essex Skippers.<\/strong>\u00a0 Also saw and photographed these two dragonflies:\u00a0 Western Pondhawk, <\/strong>Erythemis collocata<\/em><\/strong>;<\/em>\u00a0Cardinal Meadowhawk, <\/strong>Sympetrum illotum<\/em><\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 Jeremy Tatum notes:\u00a0 According to Rob Cannings\u2019 book Introducing the Dragonflies of British Columbia and the Yukon, <\/em>this species \u201cusually perches flat on the ground\u201d.\u00a0 This individual has evidently read the book.<\/p>\n
