We will meet at the summit of Mount Tolmie by the reservoir at 1 p.m.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0One possibility might be to go to Cordova (Saanichton) Spit to search for the <strong>Branded Skipper<\/strong>, but we can decide at the time.\u00a0 The weather is supposed to be sunny, so hope to see you Sunday,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">-Gordon<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Gordon also mentioned that yesterday in his yard in the Highlands he saw a large <strong>Fritillary <\/strong>(presumably <em>Speyeria <\/em>sp.)\u00a0 He felt that its colour wasn\u2019t quite right for the usual <em>S. hydaspe<\/em>, so it is a legitimate question to ask if maybe we have a few <em>S. zerene<\/em> in our area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0\u00a0 Jeremy Tatum writes that he had an an exciting experience yesterday at Latoria Creek Park when he was startled by a large black-and-red moth that almost collided with his head as it flew past.\u00a0 It was a <strong><em>Catocala<\/em><\/strong>, but obviously not possible to identify to species under such circumstances.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0\u00a0 Jochen M\u00f6hr writes that at his Metchosin home he had this morning:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><em>2 Lophocampa argentata<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><em>2 Eulithis xylina<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><em>1 Oligia divesta<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><em>1 Lacinipolia strigicollis<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">and one dunno (pic attached).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0\u00a0 We\u2019ll try and have the \u201cdunno\u201d identified and posted by this evening\u2019s posting!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>August 4 midday \u00a0 Gordon Hart writes: Hello Butterfly Watchers, This is a reminder that the monthly VNHS Butterfly Walk will be on Sunday August 5.
