\u00a0 Jeremy Tatum writes:\u00a0 I had two tortricid moths emerge from their pupae recently.\u00a0 They looked quite different, not only in their markings, but in their size, the female being much larger.\u00a0 However, Justin Dombrowskie kindly identified them for us as a male and female Archips rosana<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 The caterpillars had been found on Cornus stolonifera <\/em>(the female) and on Rubus discolor <\/em>(the male).<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 Jeremy continues:\u00a0 David Harris and I went to Island View Beach today, where David was treated to a sight of several pristine fresh Lorquin\u2019s Admirals.<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Then we went to the fields inland from Island View Beach, hoping to find Ringlets <\/strong>\u00a0(also known as Large Heaths<\/strong>).\u00a0 \u00a0I am embarrassed to say I got hopelessly and<\/span> utterly lost!<\/span>\u00a0 It is a much larger area back there than I had ever realized.\u00a0 After wandering randomly for a long time, we eventually met someone and we had to ask the way.\u00a0 \u00a0Anyway, it was worth it, because we saw several Ringlets <\/strong>and a Purplish Copper<\/strong>.\u00a0 We also found caterpillars of an Essex (European) Skipper <\/strong>and a Garden Tiger Moth <\/strong>(both of which David could have found in Sussex!).\u00a0 The caterpillar of the Garden Tiger is the original Woolly Bear<\/strong>, the latter feeding upon Yellow Honeysuckle.\u00a0 I haven\u2019t seen one here for a few years, and it permitted only a not-very-good photograph, shown below:<\/p>\n
