{"id":5541,"date":"2018-02-11T11:30:13","date_gmt":"2018-02-11T19:30:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=5541"},"modified":"2018-03-02T09:58:17","modified_gmt":"2018-03-02T17:58:17","slug":"february-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=5541","title":{"rendered":"February 11"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>2018 February 11<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Jeremy Gatten writes:\u00a0 Here are some of the moths I&#8217;ve mentioned.\u00a0 In addition to those mentioned from last weekend, I had <strong><em>Lithophane pertorrida<\/em><\/strong> at my place in Saanichton during\u00a0the wee hours of February 8th<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Tatum writes:\u00a0 This is an interesting bunch.\u00a0 The three noctuids are among those moths that spend the winter in the adult state, reappearing early in the year.\u00a0 <strong><em>Lithophane georgii<\/em><\/strong> is a new moth for this site. <strong> <em>Homoglaea dives<\/em><\/strong> has appeared only once before, in September 2013.\u00a0 The caterpillars of <strong><em>Lithophane <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0are best reared separately from other caterpillars &#8211; they are not wholly vegetarian!\u00a0 <strong><em>Hydriomena manzanita<\/em><\/strong> is another \u201chighflyer\u201d (see February 7 for another one) &#8211; though not at all a very typical one. It\u2019s also not a very typical geometrid, for it holds its wings \u201cportrait\u201d like a noctuid, rather than \u201clandscape\u201d like a typical geometrid. Its caterpillar feeds on <em>Arbutus <\/em>\u00a0and presumably also <em>Manzanita<\/em>.
