{"id":5477,"date":"2018-01-18T14:20:49","date_gmt":"2018-01-18T22:20:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=5477"},"modified":"2018-01-18T14:27:59","modified_gmt":"2018-01-18T22:27:59","slug":"january-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=5477","title":{"rendered":"January 18"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>2018 January 18<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong>Jochen Moehr sends photographs of a moth and a caddisfly from Metchosin, and I am enormously indebted to Libby Avis for the identifications.&nbsp; Libby writes: The moth is a  <em>Hypena<\/em>, no question and I&#8217;m pretty sure it&#8217;s one of the darker <strong><em>Hypena californica<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; pronounced wedge at apex and I&#8217;ve also often seen them with a smaller offset dark dot between the orbicular spot and the trailing edge of   the wing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; The caddis fly is a limnephilid and it looks very much like a photo of Scott Gilmore&#8217;s on BG which was ID&#8217;d as  <strong><em>Glyphopsyche irrorata<\/em><\/strong>. If you go into Bug Guide: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bugguide.net\/\">  www.bugguide.net<\/a> and type in the number 1043396 in the search box in the top right, you&#8217;ll call it up.
