For example, I suppose the moth <em>Euclidia ardita <\/em>(which has been on this site three times) might be described as a geometric moth.\u00a0 (But not a geometrid &#8211; it is an erebid).\u00a0 Also, a moth\u2019s wing is roughly a triangle &#8211; look at the moth\u2019s wing above.\u00a0 Like any triangle, it has three sides\u00a0(costa, termen and\u00a0inner\u00a0margin) and three angles (tornus, base\u00a0and apex) so it could fairly be described as geometric.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m wandering. \u00a0To bring me back to reality, Jochen sends yet another moth from the wonderful biodiversity he is seeing in Metchosin.\u00a0 Regular viewers will recall that in the past I\u2019ve had difficulty in distinguishing between <em>Triphosa haesitata <\/em>and <em>Coryphista meadii.<\/em>\u00a0 I think we finally decided that if the fourth tooth on the outer margin (termen) of the hindwing is shorter than the adjacent teeth, it is <strong><em>Coryphista meadii<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 The caterpillar feeds on <em>Berberis <\/em>and <em>Mahonia<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" src=\"file:\/\/\/F:\/DOCUME%7E1\/tatum\/LOCALS%7E1\/Temp\/msohtml1\/01\/clip_image006.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" src=\"file:\/\/\/F:\/DOCUME%7E1\/tatum\/LOCALS%7E1\/Temp\/msohtml1\/01\/clip_image008.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Coryphista.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Coryphista.jpg\" width=\"596\" height=\"367.5333333333333\" name=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Coryphista meadii <\/em>(Lep.:Geometridae)\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Jochen Moehr<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2017 October 3 \u00a0 \u00a0 Sorry &#8211; No October 2 posting. &nbsp; Jochen Moehr showed Agrochola pulchella in our last posting, October 1.\u00a0 Today he has the other, equally pretty, Agrochola &#8211; Agrochola purpurea.
