(See the posting for August 11.)\u00a0 On 2015 August 26 one was photographed at Ucluelet by a visitor from the UK, Patrick Moore, and was shown on the Sussex (England) butterfly website<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex-butterflies.org.uk\/sightings\/\">www.sussex-butterflies.org.uk\/sightings\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>specifically at \u00a0\u00a0 http:\/\/www.sussex-butterflies.org.uk\/old%20sightings\/nov-dec2015.html<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" src=\"file:\/\/\/F:\/DOCUME%7E1\/tatum\/LOCALS%7E1\/Temp\/msohtml1\/01\/clip_image002.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 403px;\" title=\"Am Lady und.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Am-Lady-und.jpg\" name=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">American Lady <em>Vanessa virginiensis <\/em>(Lep.: Nymphalidae)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Mike McGrenere<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 There are still a few <strong>Painted Ladies <\/strong>around &#8211; Anne-Marie Hart spotted a fresh one nectaring on a <em>Buddleia <\/em>bush in their Highlands garden yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Libby Avis tells us that she is still seeing lots of <strong><em>Nepytia phantasmaria<\/em><\/strong> (see yesterday\u2019s posting) in Port Alberni &#8211;\u00a0 15 of them last night!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Janet Renouf sends a photograph of a green caterpillar from under an oak tree.\u00a0 It is a <strong>Rough Prominent <\/strong><strong><em>Nadata gibbosa<\/em><\/strong>, and it looks as if it is just about to pupate at any moment.\u00a0 Unfortunately it seems to have had some sort of a mishap, because it usually spins a tough cocoon in which to pupate, and, without its cocoon, I don\u2019t rate its chances of survival greatly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" src=\"file:\/\/\/F:\/DOCUME%7E1\/tatum\/LOCALS%7E1\/Temp\/msohtml1\/01\/clip_image004.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"gibbosa prepupal.jpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/gibbosa-prepupal.jpeg\" name=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Nadata gibbosa <\/em>(Lep.: Notodontidae)\u00a0 Janet Renouf<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 Gordon Hart sends photographs of damselflies from the Beaver Lake retriever ponds, September 15.\u00a0 We are grateful to Rob Cannings for the identifications.\u00a0 Rob writes: The first is a <strong><em>Lestes<\/em><\/strong> male. Unfortunately, the tip of the abdomen is out of focus, which makes identification tricky from the dorsal view. The two species common here in September are <strong><em>L. disjunctus<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>L. congener<\/em><\/strong> and, based on this and certain characters, it&#8217;s one of those. I&#8217;m afraid I can&#8217;t really tell.\u00a0\u00a0 The second is a female <strong><em>Enallagma carunculatum<\/em><\/strong>.
