Jeremy Tatum<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; Several nice caterpillars reached the Invert Alert mailbox yesterday.&nbsp;&nbsp; First a  <strong>dagger<\/strong> photographed by Scott Gilmore on a alder trunk at Upper Lantzville.&nbsp; Daggers comprise a large genus  <em>Acronicta<\/em> of rather similar grey moths carrying a dagger mark on their forewings.&nbsp; Although the moths are quite similar and difficult to distinguish, they have a remarkable array of very different and quite beautiful and spectacular caterpillars.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" class=\"\" alt=\"\" src=\"file:\/\/\/F:\/DOCUME%7E1\/tatum\/LOCALS%7E1\/Temp\/msohtml1\/01\/clip_image004.jpg\">  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" originalheight=\"848\" originalwidth=\"1193\" name=\"\" title=\"impleta.JPG\" height=\"423.64459346186084\" width=\"596\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/impleta.jpg\"><br \/>  <em><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Acronicta impleta <\/em>(Lep.: Noctuidae)&nbsp;&nbsp; Scott Gilmore<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; Libby Avis has a couple of nice ones from Port Alberni.&nbsp; She found the first one,  <strong><em>Euplexis similis<\/em><\/strong> on Maidenhead Fern.&nbsp; Libby Avis<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; The next are two instars of &nbsp;<strong><em>Schizura ipomoeae<\/em><\/strong> found on a plum tree.&nbsp; The first is probably a penultimate instar.&nbsp;
