{"id":4660,"date":"2017-07-27T15:22:56","date_gmt":"2017-07-27T22:22:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=4660"},"modified":"2017-07-30T19:06:14","modified_gmt":"2017-07-31T02:06:14","slug":"july-27-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=4660","title":{"rendered":"July 27"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>2017 July 27<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Ren Ferguson sends some photographs taken on Pender Island on July 4 in brackish marsh habitat.\u00a0 We get very few aquatic animals on this site (challenge for photographers &#8211; please note!) so we welcome Ren\u2019s photograph of a <strong>long waterscorpion <\/strong><strong><em>Ranatra <\/em><\/strong><strong>sp.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I don\u2019t know if we\u2019ll be able to go below genus level. \u00a0 Dr Heather Proctor writes, of the red dots:<\/p>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">The red blobs are water mites, and it&#8217;s 90% likely that they are <em><strong>Hydrachna<\/strong><\/em> (Hydrachnidae), which are the most common water mites parasitic on Hemiptera.
