<strong>Earwig<\/strong> from Colwood.\u00a0\u00a0 The males have much more strongly curved pincers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" src=\"file:\/\/\/F:\/DOCUME%7E1\/tatum\/LOCALS%7E1\/Temp\/msohtml1\/01\/clip_image002.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Earwig.JPG\" <em>Forficula auricularia <\/em>(Der.: Forficulidae)\u00a0 Dar Churcher<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 Below is another specimen of a tineid cocoon found by Dar Churcher.\u00a0 The cocoons were found outside on the exterior of a tin shed or from the stucco or cedar siding of the house in Colwood.\u00a0 Although it is difficult to be certain of the exact species without seeing the adult moth, Dar suggests (and Jeremy agrees) that it is quite likely to be <strong><em>Phereoeca uterella<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Tineid.JPG\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Tineid.jpg\" width=\"594.4\" height=\"599.8486666666666\" name=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0Probably <em>Phereoeca uterella <\/em>(Lep.: Tineidae)\u00a0 Dar Churcher<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Rob Higgins for identifying the\u00a0<strong>ant<\/strong> below as a member of the genus <strong><em>Formica <\/em><\/strong>(probably species group <strong><em>fusca<\/em><\/strong>).\u00a0 Its prey is the larva of a <strong>sawfly<\/strong>.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"ant plus sawfly.JPG\" <\/em>(Lep.: Geometridae)\u00a0 Jeremy Tatum<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Tatum writes: Below is a <strong>Two-banded Grizzled Skipper.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>It came from an egg found last year by Devon Parker, shown on 2016 May 15.\u00a0 The caterpillar (fed on trailing blackberry and wild strawberry) was shown on 2016 June 11, and the pupa on 2016 October 8.\u00a0 I released the adult butterfly along the Munn Road power line yesterday, where the species is known to occur and where there are lots of trailing blackberry and strawberry plants, and a safe distance from the Willow Flycatcher that is singing there.\u00a0 It flew a little way, and then settled, wings wide open, on a pristine fresh Thimbleberry flower where it nectared for a few minutes.\u00a0 Then off it flew to seek further adventures.\u00a0 Also in that area were several <strong>Western Spring Azures<\/strong> and a <strong>Western Brown Elfin.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:
