A surprise find was a <strong>Hoary (\u201cZephyr\u201d) Comma<\/strong> at Cross Road &#8211; they are usually at higher elevations and Cross Road is\u00a0probably less than 50 m.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"yipzephyr.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/yipzephyr-1.jpg\" width=\"594.4\" height=\"396.26666666666665\" name=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" src=\"file:\/\/\/F:\/DOCUME%7E1\/tatum\/LOCALS%7E1\/Temp\/msohtml1\/01\/clip_image004.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>Hoary (\u201cZephyr\u201d) Comma <em>Polygonia gracilis zephyrus <\/em>(Lep.: Nymphalidae)\u00a0 Mike Yip<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 Annie Pang sends two spider pictures, and we thank Robb Bennett for his comments and identifications.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Of the first picture, Robb comments: Young orb-weavers \/ garden spiders, starting to disperse.\u00a0 They have overwintered in an egg case hidden away somewhere last fall by their dear departed mother.\u00a0 Likely your spiders are young of <strong><em>Araneus diadematus<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; a species introduced years ago from Europe and one of the most common orb-weavers in southeastern BC.\u00a0 Could also be one of our native orb weavers &#8212; I can&#8217;t tell them apart as juveniles.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Of the second, he comments:\u00a0 That&#8217;s another introduced species &#8212;
