He writes: Starting to get jealous of the elfins folks are seeing.\u00a0 [So am I!\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Jeremy].\u00a0 And Gerry and Wendy Ansell found at least three <strong>Sara Orangetips<\/strong> on the lower western slope of Mount Douglas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Morgan Davies sends a photograph of a bumblebee on Sea Blush on the Gulf Islands, April 10.\u00a0 Sean McCann suggests <strong><em>Bombus melanopygus<\/em><\/strong><strong> &#8211; <\/strong>with the caution that its very dark thorax seems odd for the species.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" src=\"file:\/\/\/F:\/DOCUME%7E1\/tatum\/LOCALS%7E1\/Temp\/msohtml1\/01\/clip_image002.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 710px; height: 485px;\" title=\"bumble1.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/bumble1.jpg\" name=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Black-tailed Bumblebee <em>Bombus melanopygus <\/em> (Hym.: Apidae)\u00a0 Morgan Davies<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 Don\u2019t sit too close to the screen, unless this <strong>jumping spider<\/strong>, photographed in the Highlands District by Thomas Barbin on April 11, suddenly jumps out at you. Thanks to Robb Bennett for confirming the identification.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Salticus scenicus.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Salticus-scenicus.jpg\" width=\"716.8\" height=\"477.8666666666666\" name=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" src=\"file:\/\/\/F:\/DOCUME%7E1\/tatum\/LOCALS%7E1\/Temp\/msohtml1\/01\/clip_image004.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><em>Salticus scenicus <\/em>(Ara.: Salticidae)\u00a0 Thomas Barbin<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you survived that one, don\u2019t relax.\u00a0 The photograph of two ants (<em>Formica <\/em>sp., known as <strong>thatching ants<\/strong>), dragging an earwig into their nest, was taken by Thomas Barbin yesterday.\u00a0 Dr Robert Higgins of Thompson Rivers University cautions that there is no way to be sure of the species without microscopic examination, but the <em>Formica<\/em>s that he sees most often in SW BC are <strong><em>Formica oreas<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 The extensive dusky colour on one of the ants suggest this as a possibility, but it could well be another species.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"ants.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/ants.jpg\" width=\"716.8\" height=\"477.8666666666666\" name=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<em>Formica <\/em>sp.
