{"id":3820,"date":"2017-04-06T08:01:49","date_gmt":"2017-04-06T15:01:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=3820"},"modified":"2017-04-06T16:08:11","modified_gmt":"2017-04-06T23:08:11","slug":"april-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=3820","title":{"rendered":"April 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>2017 April 6<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; Jeremy Tatum writes:&nbsp; I photographed the spider below on the outside wall of my apartment building this morning.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; Robb Bennett writes:&nbsp; It&#8217;s an immature male <strong><em>Clubiona<\/em><\/strong>.&nbsp; There are 17 species recorded in the province, several of which are common in the Victoria area, and they all look like your specimen.&nbsp; Commonly known as  <strong>sac spiders<\/strong>, larger specimens have been known to bite, causing some minor localized pain and swelling.&nbsp; In fact, at the first spider presentation I made here in Victoria a decade or so ago (for the VNHS), a youngster who had brought in a live   specimen for the &#8220;show and tell&#8221; part was bitten by it.&nbsp; It escaped from the lad&#8217;s container and got into his shirt and nipped him on the stomach.&nbsp; The lad seemed unconcerned and actually got some good mileage out of showing other members of the audience the   small welt on his belly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" originalheight=\"862\" originalwidth=\"1200\" name=\"\" title=\"Clubiona.JPG\" height=\"429.85066666666665\" width=\"598.4\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Clubiona.jpg\">  <\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" class=\"\" alt=\"\" src=\"file:\/\/\/F:\/DOCUME%7E1\/tatum\/LOCALS%7E1\/Temp\/msohtml1\/01\/clip_image002.jpg\">Sac spider  <em>Clubiona <\/em>sp.
