{"id":3778,"date":"2017-03-28T07:40:23","date_gmt":"2017-03-28T14:40:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=3778"},"modified":"2017-03-28T15:47:24","modified_gmt":"2017-03-28T22:47:24","slug":"march-28-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=3778","title":{"rendered":"March 28"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>2017 March 28<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp; <\/strong><strong>Butterflies!<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong>None have yet been reported direct to Invert Alert, but Gordon Hart tells me that three  <strong>Cabbage Whites <\/strong>have been reported to the BC Butterfly Group:&nbsp; James Miskelly on March 15 in Saanich;&nbsp; Michael Bentley on March 20 in Central Saanich; and Peter Boon on the Lochside trail on March 22.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; Rebecca Reader-Lee sends a photograph of a spider that has been hanging around on the ceiling of her house in the North Highlands for a while.&nbsp; The picture below was taken on March 11, but she sees the spider pretty much daily.&nbsp;&nbsp; Thanks to Robb Bennett   for identifying it as a species of <strong><em>Philodromus <\/em><\/strong>of the family Philodromidae.&nbsp; These are known as &#8220;running crab spiders&#8221;, or simply as &#8220;philodromid crab spiders&#8221;, and are only distantly related to &#8220;the&#8221; crab spiders (Thomisidae).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 395px;\" hasheight=\"false\" setwidth=\"395\" setheight=\"551\" originalheight=\"1280\" originalwidth=\"918\" name=\"\" title=\"spider Rebecca.JPG\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/spider-Rebecca.jpg\">  <\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" class=\"\" alt=\"\" src=\"file:\/\/\/F:\/DOCUME%7E1\/tatum\/LOCALS%7E1\/Temp\/msohtml1\/01\/clip_image002.jpg\">&#8220;Running crab spider&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;  <em>Philodromus <\/em>sp.
