{"id":3739,"date":"2017-03-18T08:08:26","date_gmt":"2017-03-18T15:08:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=3739"},"modified":"2017-04-03T10:49:36","modified_gmt":"2017-04-03T17:49:36","slug":"march-18-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=3739","title":{"rendered":"March 18"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>2017 March 18<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Ian sends a bunch of very-challenging-to-identify invertebrates from Sidney Island today.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are grateful to Charlene Wood for identifying the creature below as a <strong>Bristly Millipede<\/strong>.\u00a0 Charlene writes:\u00a0 I doubt that these are thoroughly known for our area.\u00a0 Of the six species documented north of Mexico, <em>Polyxenus lagurus<\/em> is the most common and widespread.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"P1130164.JPG\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/P1130164.jpg\" width=\"598.4\" height=\"456.928046989721\" name=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">Bristly Millipede.\u00a0 Class Diplopoda, Subclass Penicillata, Order Polyxenida<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">Probably <em>Polyxenus lagurus <\/em>(Pol.: Polyxenidae)<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">Ian Cruickshank<\/div>\n<p>Jeremy Tatum thinks that the next one might be a caterpillar of a noctuid &#8211;
