{"id":24411,"date":"2024-12-16T15:16:55","date_gmt":"2024-12-16T23:16:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=24411"},"modified":"2024-12-16T15:48:15","modified_gmt":"2024-12-16T23:48:15","slug":"2024-december-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=24411","title":{"rendered":"2024 December 16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>2024 December 16<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No Invertebrate Alerts were issued on December 14 and 15.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Tatum writes:\u00a0 Although there have been no submissions yet (3:00 pm) today, December 16, I am issuing this Alert with an appeal for photographers to visit the Nature House at Goldstream Park to look for and photograph Winter Moths (<em>Operophtera <\/em>sp.) there.\u00a0 You\u2019d probably need to go there before Christmas \u2013 after Christmas may be too late.\u00a0 Unfortunately, I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll be able to go there myself.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly all Winter Moths that we see in Victoria are the European Winter Moth <em>O. brumata<\/em>.\u00a0 However, at Goldstream there is a better than evens chance that you will see and photograph the native Western Winter Moth <em>O. occidentalis.\u00a0 <\/em>Photographs of the males are of interest. However, of particular interest would be close-up photos of the wingless females, to see if it is possible to distinguish between the females of the two species.\u00a0 It probably <u>is<\/u> possible, but we need to study them.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a small chance of finding the much less common <em>O. danbyi<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2024 December 16 No Invertebrate Alerts were issued on December 14 and 15.
