And no, it doesn\u2019t sting.\u00a0 It belongs to the Family Sesiidae (clearwing moths).\u00a0 Most of them are excellent at mimicking other insects; many of them, in particular, look very convincingly like Hymenoptera.\u00a0 The caterpillar of this one is hard to find (unless you are a raspberry farmer) and it is known as the Raspberry Crown Borer.\u00a0 The caterpillar lives inside the stalks and buds and even the roots of raspberries and blackberries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-23440 aligncenter\" saw a <strong>Black Saddlebags<\/strong> and at least two <strong>Paddle-tailed Darners<\/strong>.\u00a0 The only butterflies I saw were <strong>Cabbage Whites<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 (Jeremy Tatum
