\nDragonflies at Beaver Lake July 25- 27th 2024.
\nThere were a few species at one of the small ponds Saturday.
\nSeveral female Blue Dashers<\/strong> were looking very worn. Blue Dashers<\/strong> seem to be the predominant dragonflies at most ponds and lakes that I have visited over the past week.<\/p>\n

There were several Blue-eyed Darners<\/strong> hanging on twigs away from the pond yesterday, when the sun was hidden by cloud.<\/p>\n

I have seen over the past 3 days,
\n\u00a0 1 Black Saddlebags
\n4 Blue-eyed Darners
\n1 Cardinal Meadowhawk
\n1 Dot- tailed Whiteface
\n1 \u00a0Western Pondhawk
\n14 Blue Dashers
\n3 \u00a0Eight-spotted Skimmers
\n2 Paddletail Darners
\n1 Striped Meadowhawk<\/strong><\/p>\n

There were only two Cabbage White<\/strong> butterflies.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 We thank Val George for the identification of the bug in Ian Cooper\u2019s photograph in yesterday\u2019s positng.\u00a0 Val writes:\u00a0 That one just happens to be one of the several species of stink bugs I get in my Oak Bay garden. It’s a nymph of the Conchuela Bug Chlorochroa ligata<\/em>.<\/strong>\u00a0 eFauna has a couple of images of that stage of development of the species and comments that it’s the 4th<\/sup>\u00a0or 5th<\/sup>\u00a0instar. I’ve attached a photo I took in my garden of a whole herd of them.<\/p>\n
