{"id":22845,"date":"2024-07-24T19:09:49","date_gmt":"2024-07-25T02:09:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=22845"},"modified":"2024-07-24T19:09:49","modified_gmt":"2024-07-25T02:09:49","slug":"2024-july-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=22845","title":{"rendered":"2024 July 24"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>2024 July 24<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jeff Gaskin writes:\u00a0\u00a0 Yesterday, July 23, Kirsten Mills and I saw eight species of dragonflies at the south end of Beaver Lake and at the retriever ponds.\u00a0 Included among that number were firsts of the year for me.\u00a0 \u00a01 <strong>Striped Meadowhawk<\/strong>, which Kirsten photographed, and 6 or so <strong>Paddle-tailed Darners<\/strong>.\u00a0 Also, seen were a <strong>Four-spotted Skimmer,<\/strong> a <strong>Common Green Darner<\/strong>, 2 or 3 <strong>Black Saddlebags<\/strong>, and several <strong>Blue-eyed<\/strong> <strong>Darners, Blue Dashers<\/strong>, and <strong>Western Pondhawks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day I saw my first of the year <strong>Pine White<\/strong> at Viaduct Flats.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Tatum writes:\u00a0 The Beaver Lake ponds are an excellent locality for dragonflies.\u00a0 So far this year no one has yet reported a Dot-tailed Whiteface.\u00a0 Jeff\u2019s Pine White is the first reported this year.\u00a0 So far, still no Purplish Copper.\u00a0 Also, amazingly, only one Woodland Skipper \u2013 at Cowichan Station;
