2024 May 02 morning<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yesterday, May 1, Marie O\u2019Shaughnessy saw four Western Spring Azures, <\/strong>a Painted Lady<\/strong>, a Mourning Cloak, <\/strong>a Cabbage White <\/strong>and a Cedar Hairstreak <\/strong>\u00a0at Outerbridge Park.\u00a0 Aziza Cooper saw a Western Spring Azure, <\/strong>a Mourning Cloak, and <\/strong>a Cabbage White<\/strong> at Tod Creek Flats.\u00a0 Val George saw a Painted Lady <\/strong>near the Jeffrey Pine on Mount Tolmie.<\/p>\n

Painted Ladies often seem to fly near the Mount Tolmie Jeffrey Pine.\u00a0 I am not sure if I have always spelled Jeffrey correctly in earlier Invert Alerts.\u00a0 The correct spelling is Jeffrey.<\/p>\n

This is the first Cedar Hairstreak reported this year to Invertebrate Alert.\u00a0 The Cedar Hairstreak has had what the taxonomists call an \u201cextensive synonymy\u201d\u00a0 – i.e. it has been given many scientific names.\u00a0 In previous years we have called it Mitoura rosneri<\/em>.\u00a0 We are now attempting to follow the 2023 ATC<\/em>, in which it is listed as Callophrys gryneus<\/em>.\u00a0 The ATC<\/em> treats Mitoura <\/em>as a subgenus within Callophrys<\/em>, and rosneri<\/em> as a subspecies of gryneus.<\/em><\/p>\n
