2024 March 23 evening<\/strong><\/p>\n


\n<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Jochen M\u00f6hr sends a photograph of a geometrid moth from Metchosin.\u00a0 We have previously labelled this moth Venusia obsoleta\/pearsalli, <\/em>because we have been unable to distinguish between these two similar species.\u00a0\u00a0 Somewhat unexpectedly, Venusia obsoleta <\/em>\u00a0has now been moved to another genus, and is now Nomenia obsoleta<\/em>.\u00a0 We are now in the difficult position that we cannot distinguish between two moths in different genera.\u00a0 A further complication is that a third species, N. duodecimlieata<\/em> is also a possibility,<\/p>\n

According to MPG, male Venusia pearsalli <\/em>have filiform (simple) antennae.\u00a0 Unfortunately it does not say what the female antennae are like, nor do we know the sex of Jochen\u2019s specimen, and we don\u2019t see quite enough of the antennae to be sure what form they are.\u00a0 MPG says the antennae (it doesn\u2019t specify which sex) of Nomenia obsoleta <\/em>are \u201capparently\u201d unipectinate.<\/p>\n
