I was glad the butterfly managed to avoid the lizard and fly away.\u00a0 Other than that, we saw just one <strong>Woodland Skipper<\/strong> and many bees.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Gaskin writes: \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Kirsten Mills and I had an especially good time with dragonflies on August 7th.\u00a0 At McIntyre Road reservoir we saw six species of dragonflies that included the following<strong>:\u00a0 \u00a09 Blue-eyed Darners,\u00a0 4 Common Green Darners,\u00a0 3 Black Saddlebags,\u00a0 4 Blue Dashers,\u00a0 15 Western Pondhawks, and 4 Eight-spotted Skimmers<\/strong> as well as the usual two damselflies: 40+ <strong>Tule Bluets<\/strong> and 4 <strong>Pacific<\/strong> <strong>Forktails.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The butterflies we saw included :\u00a0 \u00a0<strong>2 male Purplish Coppers, 13\u00a0 Woodland Skippers and 25 Cabbage Whites.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At Outerbridge\u00a0 Park, where we went again for a second day in a row,\u00a0 the dragonflies we saw included <strong>2 Blue Dashers,\u00a0 6 Paddle-tailed Darners and a Striped Meadowhawk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally we went to Esquimalt Lagoon, where we counted an incredible\u00a0<strong>58 Variegated Meadowhawks<\/strong> all along the beach.\u00a0 Also, it&#8217;s worth knowing that we only covered about 40% of the lagoon as we walked along both the lagoon and the beach sides.\u00a0 There could easily have been over 100 of these usually hard to find Meadowhawks.<\/p>\n<p>Here are photographs, by Kirsten Mills, of some of the insects mentioned by Jeff;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: Kirsten Mills and I went to the Cowichan Valley.\u00a0 Along the trail west of the Duncan sewage lagoons we saw both a\u00a0<strong>Lorquin&#8217;s Admiral<\/strong> and a <strong>Western Tiger<\/strong> <strong>Swallowtail<\/strong>.\u00a0 Then at someone&#8217;s private residence on Riverside Road again in Duncan we saw another <strong>Lorquin&#8217;s Admiral<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Marie O\u2019Shaughnessy sends photographs of the <strong>Variegated Meadowhawk <\/strong>from Esquimalt Lagoon, August 8.\u00a0 She writes that there were
