2023 August 7 afternoon<\/strong><\/p>\n

The August VNHS Butterfly Walk was held yesterday, August 6, led by Gordon Hart.\u00a0 Aziza Cooper writes:<\/p>\n

Under partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures, nine people saw eight species of butterflies:<\/p>\n

Anise Swallowtail
\n<\/strong>Cabbage White
\n<\/strong>Sulphur species
\n<\/strong>Painted Lady
\n<\/strong>Red Admiral
\n<\/strong>Lorquin’s Admiral
\n<\/strong>Woodland Skipper
\n<\/strong>Essex Skipper<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mount Tolmie, early afternoon
\n<\/u>Woodland Skipper<\/strong> – 1<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mcintyre Reservoir:
\n<\/u>Anise Swallowtail – 1
\n<\/strong>Cabbage White – 7
\n<\/strong>Sulphur species – 1
\nW<\/strong>oodland Skipper – 5<\/strong><\/p>\n

Island View Beach:
\n<\/u>Lorquin’s Admiral – 2
\n<\/strong>Woodland Skipper – 8
\n<\/strong>Essex Skipper – 2<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mount Tolmie, late afternoon:
\n<\/u>Red Admiral – 2
\n<\/strong>Painted Lady – 1<\/strong><\/p>\n

Several photographs of butterflies and other insects were taken.\u00a0 It is hoped to post some of them in tomorrow\u2019s posting.\u00a0 These will include a photograph of the \u201csulphur sp.\u201d \u2013 seen again today, August 7 \u2013 from which we may be able to determine the species.<\/p>\n

Jeff Gaskin writes:\u00a0 I saw a Lorquin’s Admiral<\/strong> on August 5th at Panama Flats, which is the last one I’ve seen so far. No more swallowtails since the last ones I told you about.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Kirsten and I also went to Outerbridge Park, August 6th,\u00a0 hoping to see Marie’s Striped Meadowhawk that she photographed on the 4th.\u00a0 We didn’t see the Meadowhawk but did see 3 Paddle-tailed Darners<\/strong> instead.\u00a0 They were the only dragonflies we saw and also no butterflies were seen either.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
