2023 July 3 morning<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aziza Cooper writes:<\/strong><\/p>\n

On July 2, on the July Butterfly Walk, eight people saw a total of eight species of butterflies.<\/p>\n

At Mount Tolmie:
\nWestern Tiger Swallowtail – 3<\/strong>
\nPale Tiger Swallowtail – 2<\/strong>
\nLorquin’s Admiral – 3<\/strong>
\nCabbage White – 1<\/strong><\/p>\n

At MacIntyre Reservoir:
\nRed Admiral – 1<\/strong>
\nCabbage White – 10+<\/strong>
\nEssex Skipper – 10+\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

At Island View Beach:
\nRed Admiral – 1<\/strong>
\nPainted Lady – 1<\/strong>
\nCabbage White – 5<\/strong>
\nLorquin’s Admiral – 8<\/strong>
\nEssex Skipper – 10+<\/strong> including one forma pallida<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

At Mt Tolmie, late afternoon:
\nWest Coast Lady – 1<\/strong>
\nPainted Lady – 1<\/strong>
\nPale Tiger Swallowtail – 1<\/strong><\/p>\n

Also photographed were two species of damselfly<\/strong>, two small moths, a sand wasp and an insect gall.<\/p>\n

A small geometrid moth landed on the lens of Gordon Hart\u2019s camera.\u00a0 While of course he was unable to photograph it, Aziza Cooper managed to get a snap!<\/p>\n

The galls shown, on a Nootka Rose, are formed by the larvae of a gall wasp of the Family Cynipidae<\/p>\n
