\u00a0\u00a0 Jeff Gaskin writes: Yesterday, May 20, Kirsten Mills and I did a lot of looking for butterflies in the Highlands.\u00a0 We found four Western Brown Elfins <\/b>along the start to the Stewart Mountain trail.\u00a0 A Mourning Cloak <\/b>was at the end of Caleb Pike Road in Gowlland Tod Park.\u00a0 Kirsten saw an early Lorquin’s Admiral<\/b> at the Thetis Lake parking lot.\u00a0 A Green Comma<\/b> was seen on Munn Road near the Francis\/King Park parking lot.
\nWe had a total of 40 Western Spring Azures<\/b> and 17 Pale Tiger Swallowtails<\/b> in the Highlands.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 A perusal of Invertebrate Alert records from 2015 \u2013 2022 shows that, while May 20 is certainly an early sighting for the Lorquin\u2019s Admiral, first reports of the year in 2016 and 2018 were also on May 20, and the first report for 2019 was May 21.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0 Jeff continues:\u00a0 Today, May 21, on Lochside Drive north of Blenkinsop Lake, I saw a Mourning Cloak<\/b>, 1 Satyr Comma<\/b>, 1 Western Spring Azure<\/b> and 14 Cabbage<\/b> Whites<\/b>.\u00a0 \u00a0At Rithet’s Bog I saw 3 Ringlets<\/b>, 1 Pale<\/b> and 1 Western Tiger Swallowtails<\/b>, 1 Mourning Cloak <\/b>and 2 Cabbage Whites<\/b>.\u00a0\u00a0 I also saw my first of the year Cardinal Meadowhawks <\/strong>at Rithet’s Bog\u00a0 In total I saw three of them as well as California Darners<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
