line-height: 115%; font-size: 11pt;\">2022:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm; line-height: 115%; font-size: 11pt;\">In 2015, in addition to the one reported sighting of an adult butterfly, a batch of caterpillars was found during the Metchosin Bioblitz, this being the last year in which caterpillars were found.\u00a0 Six were taken and successfully reared and released from this batch.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm; line-height: 115%; font-size: 11pt;\">The last time a photograph of a Milbert\u2019s Tortoiseshell appeared in Invert Alert was in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm; line-height: 115%; font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0 Recent additional sightings of butterflies:\u00a0 At 5:00 pm on Tuesday May 9 there was a <b>California Tortoiseshell <\/b>on the Mount Tolmie reservoir (it was there again on May 11), and a <b>Red Admiral <\/b>(first reported sighting of the year) nectaring on Spanish Bluebells at the entrance to the reservoir. \u00a0\u00a0Also on May 9,\u00a0 Aziza Cooper photographed a <b>Mourning Cloak <\/b>(shown below)at Rithet\u2019s Bog.\u00a0 And on May 10 a <b>Mourning Cloak <\/b>was at Swan Lake.\u00a0 \u00a0On May 11, three <b>Sara Orangetips <\/b>were seen along the Panhandler Trail off Munn Road.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-right: 0px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/image-47.png\" alt=\"image.png\" width=\"431\" height=\"289\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0cm; line-height: 115%; font-size: 11pt;\" align=\"center\">Mourning Cloak <i>Nymphalis antiopa <\/i>(Lep.: Nymphalidae)\u00a0 Aziza Cooper<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<p align=\"center\">\n<p align=\"center\">\n<p align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"postie-post\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm; line-height: 115%; font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0 \u00a0Jeremy Tatum writes:\u00a0 On May 11, an <b>eyed hawk moth <\/b>emerged from its pupa.\u00a0 I had reared it from a caterpillar found at Rithet\u2019s Bog last year, and I released the adult moth there.\u00a0 Hawk moths of the genus <i>Smerinthus <\/i>are known as eyed hawk moths.\u00a0 Since <i>S. cerisyi <\/i>(Cerisy\u2019s Eyed Hawk Moth) was split a few years ago into two species, the only English name that I have seen for our species, <i>S. ophthalmica<\/i>,\u00a0is Southwestern Eyed Sphinx.\u00a0 However, it doesn\u2019t belong to the genus <i>Sphinx<\/i>, so it would be better to call it Southwestern Eyed Hawk Moth.\u00a0 For the time being I shall stick to the scientific name.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm;
