{"id":16959,"date":"2022-10-08T19:49:38","date_gmt":"2022-10-09T02:49:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=16959"},"modified":"2022-10-08T19:58:02","modified_gmt":"2022-10-09T02:58:02","slug":"2022-october-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=16959","title":{"rendered":"2022 October 8"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"postie-post\">\n<div>\n<p><strong>2022 October 8<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong>This month and last, we have had a good invasion of <strong>Sulphur <\/strong>butterflies.&nbsp; Both species &#8211; Orange Sulphur and Clouded Sulphur &#8211; have occurred.&nbsp; While some individuals have been fairly easy to identify, some have not been easy, and we are not certain which of the two species they are.&nbsp; I (JeremyTatum) and Val George have examined the photographs received by Invert Alert to the best of our abilities, and I have labelled them accordingly. I don&rsquo;t think either of us would claim to have identified them with 100 percent certainty, and I have labelled some of them either\/or. We think that all sulphurs before September 30 have been Orange Sulphurs.&nbsp; From September onwards, both species have been present.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; Ron Flower photographed two at McIntyre reservoir yesterday.&nbsp; We believe the first of the photgraphs below is an <strong>Orange Sulphur.&nbsp; <\/strong>We are not certain of Ron&rsquo;s second photograph.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/IMG_8573-2-Large.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"658\" height=\"462\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Female Orange Sulphur <em>Colias eurytheme <\/em>(Lep.: Pieridae)&nbsp; Ron Flower<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/IMG_8595-2-Large.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"698\" height=\"425\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Male sulphur <em>Colias eurytheme\/philodice&nbsp; <\/em>(Lep.: Pieridae) Ron Flower.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; There are probably <strong>Cabbage Whites<\/strong> still around, although none were actually reported yesterday.&nbsp; However, I did see one in the Martindale Valley today.
