{"id":16496,"date":"2022-09-02T10:46:52","date_gmt":"2022-09-02T17:46:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=16496"},"modified":"2022-09-03T17:53:42","modified_gmt":"2022-09-04T00:53:42","slug":"2022-september-2-morning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=16496","title":{"rendered":"2022 September 2 morning"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"postie-post\">\n<div>\n<p><strong>2022 September 2 morning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Jochen M\u00f6hr sends a photograph, obtained in Metchosin of a <strong>flutter fly <\/strong>yesterday:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/P1690492.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"536\" height=\"402\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Flutter fly <em>T<\/em><em>oxonevra muliebris <\/em>(Dip.:\u00a0 Pallopteridae)\u00a0 Jochen M\u00f6hr<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The genus is sometimes spelled <em>Toxoneura<\/em>, and the fly has also been listed in the genus <em>Palloptera<\/em>, but the currently preferred scientific name and spelling are as given in the caption under the photograph.\u00a0\u00a0 This is a European species only recently recognized in British Columbia.\u00a0 The history and list of records in British Columbia are given in Cannings and Gibson <em>JESBC <\/em><strong>116, <\/strong>64-68 (2009).\u00a0 The first British Columbia record was in 2016. To the list in Cannings and Gibson, we can add one more (in addition to the record here), namely one was photographed in Metchosin, also by Jochen, 2019 July 26, shown on this Invertebrate Alert Website for that date.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cheryl Hoyle sends photographs of two flies from View Royal, August 30.\u00a0 Jeremy Tatum writes:\u00a0 I cannot be 100 percent sure of their identifications, but I believe there is a fairly high probability that I have labelled them correctly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/DSC_0344-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"342\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Phaonia <\/em>(possibly <em>pallida<\/em>) (Dip.: Anthomyiidae)\u00a0 Cheryl Hoyle<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">(Placed by some authors in Muscidae)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/DSC_0331-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"536\" height=\"381\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Anthrax <\/em>sp.
