\u00a0the remainder in Colquitz River Park.\u00a0 We thank Dr Robb Bennett for confirming Ian\u2019s \u00a0spider identifications and for supplying the additional comments.\u00a0 Robb also writes: They are all very nice images.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/DSC02064-cc-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"459\" height=\"382\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Ero <\/em>(probably <em>tuberculata<\/em>)\u00a0 (Ara.: Mimetidae)\u00a0\u00a0 Ian Cooper<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 This is an <em>Ero<\/em> species \u2013 mimetid spiders that specialize in eating other spiders. \u00a0Our single native species <em>of Ero <\/em>is <em>E. canionis<\/em> but I <em>think<\/em> this is our relatively recently introduced species \u2013 <em>E. tuberculata<\/em> (apparently two pairs of dorsal abdominal humps (\u201ctubercles\u201d) versus a single pair in<em> canionis<\/em>). \u00a0Not known here a few years ago, it is now fairly common around southern Vancouver Island and the lower mainland.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/DSC02068cc-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"428\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Enoplognatha ovata <\/em>(Ara.: Theridiidae)\u00a0 Ian Cooper<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/DSC02261c-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"499\" height=\"375\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Enoplognatha ovata <\/em>(Ara.: Theridiidae)\u00a0 Ian Cooper<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This common theridiid spider comes in several colOur morphs.\u00a0 Sean McCann and Catherine Scott did a great study at Island View Beach of this spider preying on other spiders.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/DSC02185c-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"375\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Dysdera crocata <\/em>(Ara.: Dysderidae)\u00a0 Ian Cooper<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>This is an immature <em>Dysdera crocata<\/em> \u2013 the introduced &#8220;slater slayer&#8221;
