{"id":15773,"date":"2022-06-21T16:00:27","date_gmt":"2022-06-21T23:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=15773"},"modified":"2022-06-21T16:20:53","modified_gmt":"2022-06-21T23:20:53","slug":"2022-june-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=15773","title":{"rendered":"2022 June 21"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"postie-post\">\n<div>\n<p><strong>2022 June 21<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>We may not have had much of a Spring, but welcome to Summer, which started at 2:13 PDT this morning.<\/p>\n<p>No sooner had we described (yesterday) <strong><em>Noctua pronuba<\/em><\/strong> as an \u201cabundant and ubiquitous\u201d moth than two more photographs arrived today \u2013 one from Margaret McKenzie from her barbecue table (which we are trying to locate) and one from Aziza Cooper from Bowker Street.\u00a0 Margaret noted the yellow hindwings.\u00a0 The challenge would be to photograph the hindwings, which none of us managed to do!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/IMG_3102.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"558\" height=\"745\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Large Yellow Underwing <em>Noctua pronuba <\/em>(Lep.: Noctuidae)\u00a0 Margaret McKenzie<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/B-Moth-Bowker-1b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"667\" height=\"521\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Large Yellow Underwing <em>Noctua pronuba <\/em>(Lep.: Noctuidae)\u00a0 Aziza Cooper<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>\u00a0 Aziza also reported a <strong>Ringlet (Large Heath) <\/strong>at Island View Beach:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/B-Bfly-Ringlet-Is-View-1b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"609\" height=\"505\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Ringlet <em>Coenonympha tullia <\/em>(Lep.: Nymphalidae \u2013 Satyrinae)\u00a0 Aziza Cooper<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the Highlands yesterday Gordon counted 1 <strong>Green Comma<\/strong>, 2 worn <strong>Western Spring Azures<\/strong>, 2 <strong>Cedar<\/strong> <strong>Hairstreaks<\/strong>, and one <strong>Western Tiger Swallowtail.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Bryan Gates photographed the butterfly below along Uplands Road on June 20.\u00a0 It has no maculation and I can\u2019t be sure (writes Jeremy Tatum) what it is, but I\u2019m thinking probably a worn Cabbage White.\u00a0 We\u2019d be glad to hear of any opinions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/IMG_2660.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"703\" height=\"498\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Pieris rapae<\/em>?
