reorganization of the UVic email system, we have had difficult problems getting the Invertebrate Alert daily postings up for the past couple of weeks or so.\u00a0 A big thankyou to Adam Taylor (VNHS Webmaster) and staff at the UVic Help Centre (Sage, Zo\u00eb, and the rest of the team), who put in a lot of hours and effort into keeping Invert Alert going, and eventually solving the problem.\u00a0 I think we are now back in business.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Tatum writes:\u00a0 There was a <strong>Painted Lady<\/strong> on the very summit of Mount Tolmie yesterday evening, July 11.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here is another photograph of an adult <strong><em>Malacosoma disstria.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00ad<\/em> <\/strong>It is no more exciting in appearance than yesterday\u2019s, except that this time we can see the bipectinate antennae showing that it is, at last, a male.\u00a0 This one was only 13 mm from the head to the forewing apex.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Male-disstria.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"573\" Metchosin this morning fortuitously includes a male <strong><em>M. californicum<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>His batch also includes a <strong><em>Polyphylla <\/em><\/strong>beetle.\u00a0 Andrew Smith writes:\u00a0 The hair-like setae on the disc of the pronotum clearly indicate that this is <strong><em>Polyphylla crinita<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0Nice pic!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: 12).\u00a0 The Teasel is at full display now, but, strangely, the only butterflies there were <strong>Cabbage Whites <\/strong>(a-plenty).\u00a0 The Cabbage Whites were more interested in nectaring at <em>Raphanus<\/em> rather than on the Teasel.\u00a0 Recall that Ron saw a Red Admiral there yesterday, so butterflies could arrive in force at any time \u2013 let us hope before the Teasels are cut down.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There were lots of dragonflies there.\u00a0 <strong>Eight-spotted Skimmers <\/strong>seemed especially numerous, though there were also several <strong>Black Saddlebags, <\/strong>which seem to be unusually widespread this year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Nearby, I found these two caterpillars within inches of each other on adjacent willowherb plants &#8211;\u00a0 two different species of hawk moth:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"
