\u00a0\u00a0 Jeremy Tatum shows a photograph of a Spilosoma virginica<\/em><\/strong>, <\/strong>reared from a caterpillar last year, the adult released yesterday at Rithet’s Bog.\u00a0 The caterpillar of this moth is the familiar Yellow Woolly Bear.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jeff Gaskin writes:\u00a0 Yesterday, May 31, on Mount Tolmie there were at least 4 Painted Ladies<\/strong> and 1 Pale Tiger Swallowtail<\/strong> as well as a few Cabbage Whites<\/strong>.\u00a0 Today, June 1, a walk along Hector Road produced the following butterflies\u00a0 :\u00a0 at least 8 Pale Tiger Swallowtails<\/strong>, 3 or 4 Western Tiger<\/strong> Swallowtails<\/strong>, a Lorquin’s Admiral<\/strong>, a Red Admiral<\/strong> as well as a number of Cabbage Whites<\/strong>. Kirsten Mills\u00a0 tells me she was up Mount Tolmie about noon today, June 1, and saw a total of 6 Lady<\/strong> butterflies.\u00a0 She thought one may have been a West Coast Lady<\/strong> but wasn’t sure.\u00a0 Also up on the hill was a Red Admiral<\/strong>, a Lorquin’s Admiral<\/strong>, 2 Anise<\/strong> and 6 Pale Tiger Swallowtails<\/strong> and 2 Propertius Duskywings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Jeremy Tatum writes:\u00a0\u00a0 Bill Savale and I visited the railway line north of Cowichan Station on June 1, and we saw:\u00a0 6 Western Tiger Swallowtails,<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>1 Pale Tiger Swallowtail, <\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>3 Margined Whites, 1 Satyr Comma,<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>1 Western Spring Azure.<\/strong><\/p>\n
