{"id":1172,"date":"2015-04-20T02:56:36","date_gmt":"2015-04-20T09:56:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=1172"},"modified":"2016-03-13T16:38:08","modified_gmt":"2016-03-13T23:38:08","slug":"april-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/?p=1172","title":{"rendered":"April 19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>2015 April 19<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong>Aziza Cooper writes:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>We are beginning&nbsp;the 2015 Butterfly Count season.&nbsp;&nbsp;As always, the&nbsp;count period&nbsp;is from the 3rd Saturday to the 4th Sunday &#8211; nine days.&nbsp;&nbsp;A warm spring has already brought the butterflies out.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>To submit your results, please log in to the Victoria Natural History site using the link<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"index.php\">https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/website\/index.php <\/a><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Then look for &#8220;Popular Items&#8221; on the right hand side, and click on &#8220;Butterfly Count&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Submit a separate form for each area you count, so I can take the higher number in case of double counting.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>If you&#8217;d like a suggestion about what area to count, send me an email. &nbsp;tanageraz at yahoo.com<br \/> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Please let me know if you want to be removed from this list. We start at the summit of <\/strong><strong>Mount<\/strong><strong>Tolmie<\/strong><strong> at 1pm, and decide where to go from there. The walk will be cancelled if the weather is cool or rainy. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong>Aziza also writes:&nbsp; Today, Rick Schortinghuis and I found all three species of <strong>elfins<\/strong>, and six other species at Camas Hill. We saw the first <strong> Pale Swallowtail<\/strong> of the season. We also saw a very interesting moth, a <strong> Fairy Longhorn<\/strong>, with black and white barred wings and antennae far longer than its body.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Two-banded Checkered Skipper &#8211; 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pale Swallowtail &#8211; 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cabbage White &#8211; 6<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sara Orangetip &#8211; 5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Brown (Western Elfin) &#8211; Jeremy Tatum<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; Karen Ferguson writes that the <strong>Propertius Duskywings<\/strong> that she saw (see April 19) were not ovipositing, but were really probing the Garry Oak buds with their proboscides.
