worth on Ron&#8217;s Parnassian photos posted May 27.\u00a0 The major distinguishing feature between <em>clodius<\/em> and <em>smintheus<\/em> is I think the banded antennae on <em>smintheus<\/em>;\u00a0 <em>clodius<\/em> has plain black antennae.\u00a0 Ron&#8217;s photos clearly show this feature, suggesting <em>smintheus<\/em>.\u00a0 However, another difference between the two species is supposed to be the second black bar from the thorax on the forewing in the cell closest to the\u00a0front edge of wing.\u00a0 For <em>smintheus<\/em> it shouldn&#8217;t reach completely across the cell;\u00a0 for <em>clodius<\/em> it does reach fully across.\u00a0 All the photos I&#8217;ve seen of the two species show this difference, e.g., all 27 photos for <em>smintheus<\/em> on e-Fauna showing the forewing do not have the bar reaching across whereas all 23 similar photos for <em>clodius<\/em> do have the bar reaching across.\u00a0 Ron&#8217;s photos show this bar reaching fully across the cell suggesting <em>clodius<\/em>.\u00a0 It was previously noted that Ron&#8217;s butterfly doesn&#8217;t have any red spots on its forewing, again suggesting <em>clodius<\/em>, but this isn&#8217;t a definitive identification feature.\u00a0 My conclusion:\u00a0 a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">very definite maybe<\/span> for <em>smintheus<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thank you, Val, for this quite considerable bit of research.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 Jochen M\u00f6hr sends photographs of two moths \u2013 identified by Libby Avis \u2013 from Metchosin this morning:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"width: 447px;
