After a very brief observation (no photo), it flew away and was not seen again. This road is reached on the weekends via the NW Bay Logging Road. \u00a0I looked for this species numerous times last year and again this year. Then late yesterday (May 18th) I found at least two individuals and was able finally to get photos.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"pastedImage.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/pastedImage-156.png\" name=\"null\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Dreamy Duskywing <em>Erynnis icelus <\/em>(Lep.: Hesperiidae)\u00a0 Mark Wynja<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"width: 534px; margin: 5px;\" src=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/jtatum\/AppData\/Local\/Temp\/msohtmlclip1\/01\/clip_image004.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"pastedImage.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/pastedImage-157.png\" name=\"null\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Dreamy Duskywing <em>Erynnis icelus <\/em>(Lep.: Hesperiidae)\u00a0 Mark Wynja<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 Mark&#8217;s next photograph (writes Jeremy Tatum) shows that, like the Propertius Duskywing, many of the pale spots on the wings of these skippers are translucent.\u00a0 (Photographers of \u00a0Propertius Duskywing \u2013 see if you can get a photo like this, from underneath, showing the translucent spots,)\u00a0 The exact distribution of these translucent spots helps in the identification of several <em>Erynnis <\/em>species.\u00a0 Here there are none in the basal half to two-thirds of each wing.\u00a0 This is the first report of <em>Erynnis icelus<\/em> in this Invertebrate Alert site.\u00a0 Although at first glance it looks somewhat similar to <em>E. propertius<\/em>, it is a much smaller butterfly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" style=\"width: 584px; margin: 5px;\" src=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/jtatum\/AppData\/Local\/Temp\/msohtmlclip1\/01\/clip_image006.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"pastedImage.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/pastedImage-158.png\" name=\"null\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Dreamy Duskywing <em>Erynnis icelus <\/em>(Lep.: Hesperiidae)\u00a0 Mark Wynja<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Judy Spearing writes:\u00a0 I Just found four of these caterpillars by my large Red Elderberry shrub. Any<br \/>\nidea of what these moths are?
