<em>Pero<\/em> is giving us problems.\u00a0 Jeremy thinks not <em>mizon;<\/em><em>\u00a0 <\/em>Libby thinks not <em>behrensia <\/em>or <em>morrisonaria<\/em>.\u00a0 There are still a few to go, but our most honest guess is probably <strong><em>Pero honestaria<\/em><\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img decoding=\"async\" T<strong>iger Swallowtail <\/strong>chrysalis from a tree in southeast Saanich.\u00a0 The butterfly emerged and is shown on May 27.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"pastedImage.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/pastedImage-131.png\" name=\"null\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Tiger Swallowtail <em>Papilio rutulus<\/em> (Lep.: Papilionidae)\u00a0 Robb Bennett<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 Now here is a beetle photographed by Mr E.\u00a0 If you compare it with his cantharid beetle shown on May 5, you may be tempted, at first glance, to think that they are the same species.\u00a0 However, look more critically, and you&#8217;ll agree that they don&#8217;t have quite the same shape, and Scott Gilmore identifies it for us as <strong><em>Grammoptera molybdica<\/em><\/strong> from a quite different Family &#8211; Cerambycidae (Long-horned Beetles), and he says he has never actually seen this species himself!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"pastedImage.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/pastedImage-132.png\" width=\"596.8\" height=\"457.1641025641025\" name=\"null\" \/><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Grammoptera molybdica <\/em>(Col.: Cerambycidae)\u00a0 Mr E<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 Here&#8217;s an <em>Adela<\/em> moth photographed by Mr E.\u00a0 Is it <em>A.septentrionella <\/em>\u00a0or is it <em>A.trigrapha<\/em>? \u00a0The white bars are broader in <em>trigrapha <\/em>than in <em>septentrionella<\/em>.\u00a0 But are these bars broad enough?\u00a0 Libby Avis settles it:\u00a0 the white dot on the hindwing shows that it is <strong><em>Adela trigrapha<\/em><\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"pastedImage.png\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/pastedImage-133.png\" width=\"596.8\" height=\"480.1179487179487\" name=\"null\" \/><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Adela trigrapha <\/em>(Lep.: Adelidae)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 The beetle Family Cerambycidae are called Long-horned Beetles, and the moth family Adelidae are called (at least in Britain) Long-horned Moths.\u00a0 I have also seen in Saanich some Texas Longhorn Cattle \u2013 but they are not allowed on this site.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One more moth from Jochen, identified by Libby Avis as <strong><em>Plagodis pulveraria<\/em><\/strong><em>:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"pastedImage.png\"
