We began at Mount Tolmie with eight species in a short time: <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anise Swallowtail<\/strong> &#8211; 1 very fresh, allowing good looks and photos<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pale Swallowtail<\/strong> &#8211; 1 at summit briefly<\/p>\n<p><strong>Painted Lady<\/strong> &#8211; 1<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spring Azure<\/strong> &#8211; 8<\/p>\n<p><strong>Propertius Duskywing<\/strong> &#8211; 2<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cabbage White<\/strong> &#8211; 3<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sara Orangetip<\/strong> &#8211; 1 faded<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brown Elfin<\/strong> &#8211; 2<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We went out to Gore and Oak Haven&nbsp;Parks in&nbsp;Brentwood Bay. Our only butterflies there were about 20 <strong>Spring Azures<\/strong>, and two briefly seen <strong>elfins<\/strong>. The flowers were magnificent!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Also seen was a lizard with two tails: weird and wonderful. (European Wall Lizard)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Two of us went to Mount Douglas summit on the way back, and the hilltopping butterflies were very numerous and active:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Painted Ladies<\/strong> &#8211; 12 or more<\/p>\n<p><strong>Red Admiral<\/strong> &#8211; 2<\/p>\n<p><strong>California<\/strong><strong> Tortoiseshell<\/strong> &#8211; 1, possibly two<\/p>\n<p><strong>Propertius Duskywing<\/strong> &#8211; a cluster of three, with two others landing on them.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"\" title=\"A Calif Tortoiseshell 1a.JPG\" height=\"442.09066666666666\" width=\"588.8\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicnhs.bc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/image5547ffa9bda39.jpeg\"> <\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">California Tortoiseshell <em>Nymphalis californica <\/em>(Lep.: Nymphalidae)&nbsp; Aziza Cooper<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; Aziza continues:&nbsp; Several small red moths were at Oak Haven Park.
